Rengsdorfer Volkswandertag

At Rengsdorf's outdoor pool, on the eastern edge of town, the Rengsdorfer Volkswandertag sends walkers and runners into the western Westerwald in Rhineland-Palatinate. The event includes the Westerwaldlauf and offers several distances, from shorter 5 km and 10 km runs to an 11 km hilly mixed-surface race, plus longer walking options including an official 25 km circular route and a 50 km distance. The 25 km route is rated medium, has good trail conditions, and is estimated at about seven and a half hours on foot. The long route heads south from Rengsdorf toward Oberbieber, follows the dam at the Oberbieberer Stausee, and passes above Heimbach Weis before entering the Weiser Wald along the Harmorgenberg slope. It then links forest paths, a stream section, and a return climb toward Rengsdorf, with official stations including Freibad Rengsdorf, Nonnenlei, and Wing. The course also passes burial mounds and Roman-era excavation sites, including remains connected with the Limes and a watchtower, so the day feels like a local countryside outing as much as a race.

Wiedtal Ultra Trail

The Wiedtal Ultra Trail is a 42-kilometer trail race in Waldbreitbach, Germany, scheduled for March. Although named an ultra, the distance is also described as a marathon. Runners should anticipate a long off-road race, not a multi-distance event. The race listing provides key information: Waldbreitbach in Rhineland-Palatinate as the location, a single 42-kilometer distance, and an official website for current details. No course profile, elevation data, field size, or established traditions are mentioned in the source. Therefore, the description remains concise.

Hotfoot Run Bad Hönningen

Hotfoot Run Bad Hönningen is an obstacle-running event held in October in Bad Hönningen, Germany. Race options range from a 7 km Family Edition to a 26 km long course. The main adult races combine climbing with built obstacles, presenting a shifting challenge as runners progress through the Hot-9, Hot-13, and Hot-26 distances. The 9 km race involves a 375-meter climb and 10 obstacles. The 13 km version increases this to 500 meters of elevation and 20 obstacles. The 26 km course matches the middle distance's challenge, featuring 1,000 meters of elevation gain and 40 obstacles. Adult participants must be 18 or older. Entry includes a race number, aid stations on the course and at the finish, a finisher medal, and a certificate.

About cycling & running in Rhine-Neckar

Rhine-Neckar Training Notes

Running: Locals run Rhine-Neckar as one connected training patch, with Mannheim and Heidelberg in the mix and the Rhine and Neckar setting the map. Lauftreff Rhein-Neckar keeps the pace social and steady, and the group prefers shared runs where 10 km still leaves room to talk. The club runs without stress in the aerobic range, so Z2 and conversation sit together. The group adds the odd hill stretch when people want to build long-term. Anchor race names stay practical here, with Winterlaufserie "Rund um den Haugnisberg", 57. Nettetal-Lauf, and Rheinhöhenlauf - RUN50 on the radar.

Cycling: Locals ride Rhine-Neckar with the same club-first mindset. Radsport Rhein-Neckar e.V. runs youth development for road and mountain bike, and its training is pointed at race use. The club has MTB youth training on Thursdays from 17:15 to 19:15 at ZAP Nussloch, Saturday road training for juniors from 13:00 to 15:00 at ZAP Nussloch, and Sunday MTB rides from ZAP Nussloch. Bike Action Team also shows up in the scene, with joint evening training pulling 60 to 70 people. The climbs sit around Haugnisberg, and the wine-region edges suit base miles before harder intervals.

Season: The calendar gives Rhine-Neckar a clear rhythm rather than one perfect season. June has the Lauftreff Rhein-Neckar seminar planned for June 1, 2025, and July has Radtreff Rhein-Neckar on Sunday, July 20, 2025, so summer suits club blocks, crit legs, and longer Z2 rides. The warm months keep the Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday bike structure easy to use. Winter shifts the mood toward Winterlaufserie "Rund um den Haugnisberg" and Neujahrslauf Neckargemünd, while cyclists keep the MTB side useful when road work feels less central.
