tauron 22 cracovia marathon

The TAURON 22 Cracovia Marathon is a road race in Kraków, Poland, typically held in May, beginning at 9:00 AM from the city’s Main Market Square. This same square also functions as the finish line, providing a distinctly central Kraków location rather than a suburban start or stadium-only conclusion. The event, established in 2002, is among Poland’s larger marathons based on finisher numbers, with editions attracting several thousand participants. It welcomes both professional athletes and amateur runners, allowing the lead competitors to aim for fast times while many others pursue a significant personal challenge. The marathon is part of the Crown of Polish Marathons, alongside events in Dębno, Poznań, Warsaw, and Wrocław. It is also included in Kraków’s Royal Running Triad, which features the Cracovia Royal Half-Marathon and the Three Mounds Race, offering local runners an expanded city race series. The course records stand at 2:09:18 for men and 2:28:03 for women. Race regulations are quite specific regarding course safety and clarity, prohibiting animals, strollers, children in carriers, Nordic walking poles, barefoot running, or the use of unassigned race numbers.

Tour de Pologne

Approximately 1,200 kilometers of racing define the Tour de Pologne as a compact yet demanding stage race across Poland. Held annually in August, it is a multi-stage road cycling event where riders compete daily for time, stage victories, and the general classification. The race is part of the UCI World Tour, attracting top professional teams rather than solely local or amateur competitors. The route varies each year, but Krakow consistently hosts the finish. Past editions have featured a mountain time trial concluding at Orlinek in Karpacz. The event originated between the world wars as I Bieg Kolarski dookoła Polski, with 71 starters, 43 finishers, and Feliks Więcek winning six of the eight stages. Lang Team, under Czesław Lang, later developed it into a fully professional competition, and a women's Tour de Pologne was subsequently introduced.

poland ultra triathlon

Poland Ultra Triathlon connects Poland's lake district, Baltic coast, and mountains, instead of concentrating on a single host city. This long-distance triathlon series is designed for athletes seeking a more demanding challenge than a standard short-course event, featuring swim-bike-run disciplines. The provided information does not specify a fixed month or season for the series. The courses extend from the Mazurian Lake District to the Karkonosze Mountains and also run from the Baltic Sea towards the Tatra Mountains. This offers the series a distinct characteristic: participants race across diverse Polish landscapes, transitioning from northern waters and lowlands to the country's southern mountainous regions.

About cycling & running in Krakow

Kraków Training Notes

Running: Locals run Kraków like a compact training map, with easy Z2 on the Vistula River Path and sharper loops around Błonia Park, Jordan Park, and Planty Park. Planty Park circles Old Town, and one lap gives about two miles without leaving the city centre. The Vistula River Path stays flat, wide, and well maintained, so intervals work there without many interruptions. Krakow Running Club, Błonia Runners, and Krakow Run keep the social side simple. Krakow Run meets every Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at ulica Jagiellońska 10. Cracovia Marathon, Cracovia Royal Half Marathon, Cracovia 10K Night Run, and Biegi Kraków 2026 anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride from the city centre because Kraków has 165 km of bicycle infrastructure and 150 bike stations, so base miles start fast. The Vistula Cycle Route gives clean river riding, and the Małopolska section runs 230 kilometers from Oświęcim through Kraków to Szczucin. The route has 210 kilometers complete, mostly on flood embankment bike paths. Kraków Road Cycling Crew, Kraków Gravel Gang, AZS Kraków club, and Krakowski Klub Rowerowy cover road, gravel, and group pace. Puszcza Dulowska gives a solid gravel day, and the Kraków-Katowice line through it runs about 90km with 60-70% unpaved forest roads. The climbs sit north-west in the limestone valleys, with steep roads and a few singletrack bits.

Season: May, June, and September suit both sports best, with mild days and enough daylight for proper weekday volume. July brings peak summer, and the average high reaches 24-25°C while days above 30°C are increasingly common. June gets 70-80 mm of rain, and July gets 80-90 mm, so locals still ride and run but keep plans flexible. Winter changes the job. Cold weeks push average temperatures below freezing, and January-February bring the snowiest stretch in a year that averages 20-30 snowy days. Runners keep Planty Park, Błonia Park, and the Vistula River Path useful, while cyclists shift toward shorter Z2, gravel checks, and careful club rides.
