Lake Evans Triathlon, 5k & 10k

The Lake Evans Triathlon, 5k & 10k is a multi-sport race day at Lake Evans in Bakersfield, California, located within the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area. Taking place in October, it offers athletes a wide selection of events: super sprint, sprint, and Olympic triathlons, relay options, aquabike, aquathlon, duathlon, 5K, 10K, and virtual versions of several races. The day begins early, with the park gate opening prior to packet pickup and transition setup. Olympic athletes, duathletes, sprint athletes, and runners begin their events from the boat dock and transition area. The race is centered around the lake. Triathlon and swim-run-bike formats utilize the water and park roads, while the 5K and 10K provide runners a direct path into the same event. The competition attracts local athletes and seasoned multisport participants; previous Olympic triathlon results show a modest number of competitors, with participants noted from Bakersfield. Finishers receive a medal, an event shirt, a meal, prizes, and giveaways. The day also features music and a Largest Team Competition, positioning it as a club-and-community event rather than a solitary time trial.

About cycling & running in Bakersfield-Delano

Bakersfield-Delano Training Notes

Running: The flat route covers 87 km while gaining +112 m. The second route covers 66 km while climbing +742 m. The third route covers 26 km with +12 m gain. Panorama Vista Preserve carries the Summer Grand Prix, and Bakersfield Marathon sits as the anchor event. No named run club is listed here, so race mornings do a lot of the social work.

Cycling: The Kern River Parkway Trail is the easy spin, and Panorama park keeps paved bike paths close. Yokuts park and Round Mountain Road give locals the harder rides when Z2 turns into intervals. Kern Wheelmen Bicycle Club anchors the scene, and the club organizes cycling activities for all levels, ages, and genders. Round Mountain Road runs 4 km and climbs 306 m, and locals still talk about riding out to the Barn at Hart Park for a potluck taco Tuesday ride. Rancheria Road gravel does not disappoint, and Ethel's, Rnd Mtn to Granite and back over runs 65 km with 755 m elevation.

Season: Bakersfield-Delano training changes most when summer shows up, and locals start earlier for both runs and rides. Rancheria Road still works, and the route gives roughly two miles of steady paved climbing after crossing over the Kern River. The Lookout Trail stays an option, and summer overgrowth can change the feel fast. The Oak Flat Lookout Tower is available for rent, and Breckenridge Mountain sits visible across the Kern River. Winter details are not listed here, so locals keep the same parks, trails, and foothill routes in rotation while watching conditions before longer base miles.
