Firecracker 50

The Firecracker 50 is a 50-mile mountain bike race held annually in Breckenridge, Colorado, on Independence Day. As the original 50-mile MTB race, it precedes Breckenridge's 4th of July parade and holiday festivities, with participants then setting off on local single-track. The rider limit is 750, creating a significant mountain bike event atmosphere without the scale of an unlimited mass start. The course follows a revised route on area trails, featuring aid stations stocked four times per lap. Riders receive practical support at Carter Park, which offers complimentary bike and bag check, a post-race meal, and bike wash as part of the entry fee. The entry package also includes MTB socks and an event shirt, details that align with the race's traditional holiday feel.

Riverbluff Triathlon

The Riverbluff Triathlon is a multisport race held in Ashland City, Tennessee, located a short drive from Nashville. The staging area and transition zone are situated at the Riverbluff Park boat ramp parking area. Known as Bluffs, Bikes & Beats, the event provides triathlon, aquabike, and bike-run formats. Both sprint and Olympic distances are available for individuals and relay teams. Sprint participants begin with a 400-meter swim, while Olympic-distance competitors swim 1.1 kilometers. The race welcomes younger athletes, with sprint and virtual entries open to those 13 and older, and Olympic individual entries for those 15 and older. The swim takes place in Cheatham Lake, part of the Cumberland River system. Athletes begin the swim one at a time in a time-trial start, with approximately three seconds between each participant. The bike course is flat, and the run course has rolling hills. Typical race conditions are warm, with average air temperatures around 77°F and average water temperatures around 74°F. Wetsuit regulations are based on water temperature: wetsuits are permitted in a common mid-range, mandatory in cold water, and prohibited in very warm water. Following the race, attendees can enjoy food and live music. The event supports The Quintenn Clark Foundation.

About cycling & running in Clarksville

Clarksville Training Notes

Running: Locals run Clarksville through parks, river paths, and steady downtown loops. The Clarksville Greenway keeps base miles simple because you are not constantly stopping for traffic or navigating busy roads. Liberty Park gives runners a certified 5K course for intervals or a clean fitness check. Rotary Park gives trail runners more than five miles of trails, with roots and woods when you want singletrack focus. Downtown Commons works for sunrise starts before a few miles through Downtown Clarksville, APSU, and the Cumberland River. Clarksville Running Club, Clarksville Running Academy, and Fleet Feet Clarksville keep people linked. Clarksville Half Marathon & 5K and Wilma Rudolph 5K anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride Clarksville with plenty of road options and enough hills to make Z2 honest. Bikemap lists 63 cycle routes around town, so group rides and solo base miles do not get stale. Clarksville Cycling Club is the local hub, a non-profit social club dedicated to safe and fun group rides in and around Clarksville, TN. One route is 3 km with 129 m ascent. Another route is 6 km with 324 m ascent. Fort Campbell route and Albright Loop add more rolling work.

Season: July and August bring the clearest cycling rhythm in Clarksville, and most people ride then. Summer runners start early at Downtown Commons, roll through Downtown Clarksville, or meet Fleet Feet Clarksville at 6 PM when the plan fits. Rotary Park stays useful for trail miles, and the Greenway keeps easy running consistent when the heat makes effort control matter. Winter changes the checklist for both sports. Locals keep riding when roads and weather allow, but runners watch cancellations for thunder, lightning, very cold, ice, and sleet conditions. Clarksville still works in winter, just with fewer casual evenings and more flexible plans.
