71st Annual Fontana Days Run

The Fontana Days Run is a Southern California race morning centered on a downhill half marathon from the San Bernardino National Forest to Fontana City Hall. The half marathon began with approximately 200 runners in 1955 and now attracts over 2,000 participants, complemented by a 5K run, a 5K family fitness walk, and a children's half-mile dash. The half marathon commences early, followed by the 5K run and walk later in the morning, while the children's dash takes place at City Hall, bypassing the bused start system. The half marathon is the event's highlight: USATF designates it the World's Fastest Half Marathon Course, and the course profile illustrates this. Runners start at roughly 3,800 feet and descend nearly 2,125 feet over 13.1 miles before concluding at City Hall. Consequently, many participants aim for a personal best or a qualifying time for major races. Half marathon and 5K runners must be at least 11 years old, the family walk welcomes all ages, and the children's dash is for ages 5 to 11. Teams of 4 to 20 people can register for the half or 5K run. The finish area offers medals, local vendors, exhibitors, entertainment, and food.

Steps For Vets 5K - Inland Empire

Steps For Vets 5K - Inland Empire is a 5K in March ARB, California, with registration and timing handled through RunSignup. The event is organized by U.S.VETS and supports its work with veterans. The public race listing gives only basic course detail, so the main draw is the cause rather than a heavily documented route. Runners looking for current event details are directed from the RunSignup page to the U.S.VETS Steps For Vets website.

Golden Strides 5k, 10k, 15k, Half Marathon

Golden Strides is a Sunday morning run/walk in Riverside, California, held at Ryan Bonaminio Park on Tequesquite Avenue. Participants can select a 5K, 10K, 15K, or half marathon. The race begins at 7:30 AM, with bib pickup available beforehand. This is a straightforward local event with race-day registration, free parking in park lots and along Tequesquite Avenue, and strollers are permitted, but dogs are not. The course consists of marked out-and-back loops on a shared park path, so expect to encounter other runners, walkers, and cyclists. The 5K is one out-and-back route, the 10K is two laps, the 15K is three laps, and the half marathon uses three 4.36-mile loops with a 3:15 time limit. The aid station, located at the turnaround near the start/finish area, provides water, Gatorade, and Gu gels. The only restrooms are park facilities approximately a five-minute walk away. Registration includes a custom finisher medal, a drawstring goodie bag, complimentary photos and videos, snacks and samples, and results posted online within 12 to 24 hours.

About cycling & running in Riverside

Inland Empire Miles And Rides

Running: Riverside runners get a useful mix of park loops, city miles, and longer Inland Empire routes. Ryan Bonaminio Park gives Golden Strides 5k, 10k, 15k, Half Marathon runners a familiar anchor. ASP Run Club brings the weekend long social run on Saturdays at 7:00 AM PDT. ASP Chino Hills Social Run meets every Monday at 6:00 PM PDT. UC Riverside puts the PA for LA 5K at the Bell Tower. Mission Inn Run, Citrus Heritage Run, Pink on Parade, Reindeer Run Riverside, and Steps For Vets 5K keep the race calendar busy. The longest route covers 40 km and gains 458 m.

Cycling: Riverside Bicycle Club is the big local name on the bike. The club started in 1891, has over 200 members, and puts on over 400 rides a year. The club rides Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, with A, B, C, and D groups. The Saturday Casual Ride stays short and mostly flat, with a regroup in the middle to socialize. The route covers 8 km with 246 m of ascent and 474 m of descent. The route reaches 543 m, so the climbing is real. Baldy via Devil's Backbone is the hard altitude day.

Season: The brief does not pin one best month, so locals read the calendar and build from there. Summer keeps runners on 5K to half marathon options like Luz y Vida, Golden Strides, and Highland Family YMCA, with base miles and intervals fitting around club meets. Summer also keeps cyclists on regular Riverside Bicycle Club days and the Riverside Citrus Classic 2026 target. Winter changes the rhythm more than the map. Runners keep steady Z2 on routes like My Favorite Redlands 10 and The Loop. Cyclists stay practical, using cycleway, quiet road, road, paved, asphalt, and short unpaved sections when the plan calls for it.
