605 Trail Fest

605 Trail Fest takes place at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It offers three race distances: an 8-mile trail race, a 4.5-mile trail race, and a 1-mile run or walk for children. The event is set for August and accommodates endurance runners, those new to trail running, and families with young children. The 8-mile course crosses Good Earth State Park, and the 4.5-mile race provides a shorter trail challenge on similar park terrain. The children's race is non-competitive, open to ages 2 to 10, serving as an introduction to trail running. Packet pickup is restricted to a specific period before race day; race-morning pickup is for participants from out of town or for special circumstances.

Turkey Trails - Sioux Falls

Turkey Trails - Sioux Falls is a backyard ultra where all participants begin together at the start of each hour. Each lap covers 4.166667 miles, and runners have one hour to complete it before the next start. If you are in the starting corral when the next loop commences, you are tied for first place; the race continues until only one runner remains. The event takes place on a farmstead in Turkey Ridge Valley, near Marion and Freeman in eastern South Dakota. The course follows maintained and rough gravel and dirt roads, along with pastureland, featuring minimal elevation changes. The same loop is used during daylight and after dark. This event is noted as South Dakota’s first Backyard event, attracting runners seeking a straightforward yet demanding challenge: complete the loop, recover quickly, and repeat.

River Miles And Prairie Gravel

Running: Locals do a lot of base miles on the Sioux Falls Recreation Trail, which gives the city over 44 total miles of paved trail. The main loop runs 13 miles and connects 11 main park access points. and makes a 5-mile loop. Sioux Falls Area Running Club keeps the scene connected, and Good Earth State Park hosts a Thursday night run at 6:00pm. Tuthill Park has Falls Area Single Track, and Newton Hills State Park is not for the faint of heart. Sioux Falls Skedaddle, 605 Trail Fest, and Golden Harvest Half Marathon & 5k/10k give the calendar its anchor races.

Cycling: Cyclists keep the easy Z2 spinning on the Sioux Falls Bike Trail Loop and the Big Sioux River Greenway. Falls Park Loop and Tuthill Park Trail make better bigger-effort days, while Cliff Avenue Route and Spencer Park Trail stay popular for local rides. The short climbs run about 1 km with 181 m of elevation. The longer climbs run about 8 km with 166 m of elevation. The climbs sit at Great Bear Ski Valley, Newton Hills State Park, and the rolling hills and forest south of town.

Season: Falls Park and the Downtown River Greenway stay open until midnight. Locals log miles along the river, stack intervals on familiar pavement, and use gravel roads when the city feels too small. Winter changes both sports fast, and the dredges of winter running in Sioux Falls get real old, real fast. The route covers 2 km and 235 m of elevation.
