Brno Pride Run

The Brno Pride Run is a charity rainbow run held in Park Anthropos in Brno, as part of Brno Pride Week. It begins at noon. The main distance is 4.7 km, with a 5 km category and a one-hour category for those seeking a time-based challenge over a fixed route. Children’s races are included, making it a family-friendly event. The program continues into the evening after the running concludes. The motto is “(Still) running for equal rights,” aligning with a Pride Week race focused on visibility, participation, and fundraising rather than intense competition. This is the event's third edition, indicating its early development.

VOKOLO priglu

Vokolo priglu sends runners for one full lap of the Brno Reservoir, known locally as Prígl. This autumn running event in Brno has been held annually since 2010, featuring a main distance of 14.1 km, approximately one-third of a marathon. The race is now named ČSOB Vokolo priglu, following its first eight editions under the Triexpert sponsor. In addition to the main individual race, the event includes team options, a Steamboat Relay, shorter 5 km and 10 km races, and children’s races, catering to elite runners, hobbyists, families, and relay teams. The course begins at the TJ Lodní sporty Brno marina on Rakovecká street, following the reservoir's edge instead of city streets. Runners start on wide asphalt past Kozí Horka, Jelenice, and Obora, cross the footbridge near Veveří Castle, and continue on paved and sometimes dirt paths alongside the water. The route passes Rokle, Šulák, Sokolák, the fire station near U Lva, the dam road on Hrázní street, Hotel Santon, and Rakovec before returning to the marina. The inaugural edition had just under a thousand participants; subsequent fields exceeded one thousand, approached two thousand, and are now capped at 2,250 for safety. The race holds a strong local reputation, ranking highly among Brno and South Moravian sports events and achieving a Czech Athletics Federation top-ten position.

Běh pro Paměť Národa - Brno

Běh pro Paměť Národa - Brno is organized by the community in Brno, within the Brno-město district of South Moravia. It belongs to the broader Běh pro Paměť Národa series. The Brno race provides three standard distances: 1 km, 5.2 km, and 10.4 km. The shortest distance is suitable for children, beginners, or walkers, while the two longer routes allow regular runners to select between a short local race or a longer, double-distance run. The event supports Paměť národa, a Czech initiative meaning Memory of the Nation, giving the run a civic purpose alongside its sporting aspect. While detailed route information is not provided, the event is situated within Brno city limits, not in the surrounding rural areas. This suggests a local city race focused on participation, remembrance, and community backing, rather than a major competitive event for elite athletes.

About cycling & running in Brno

Brno Training Notes

Running: Locals run Lužánky when they want flat paved laps and easy 5-12 km rhythm. Palackého vrch gives the city a clean hill option, and Olympijský běh - Brno uses it well. Obora Holedná gives forest paths, climbs, and descents, with a 7 km circuit or a 15 km trail run. The route from Hala Rondo to Olympia is 5 km one way, so Z2 feels simple there. Several clubs keep regular training throughout the year. Běh Lužánkami, Brněnský běžecký pohár, Brno Night Run, and Vokolo priglu are the anchor dates.

Cycling: Locals ride the Svratka river path when they want clean base miles on flat asphalt. The Maloměřice - Dobřany - Bílovice nad Svitavou cycle path gives 10 km through the forest, and it works for steady spins after work. TJ Favorit Brno and Dukla Brno are the names everyone knows from the city’s cycling history. Brnonakole.cz maps the paths, and Cykloplánovač helps when surface and elevation matter. The climbs sit in the wooded hills north, east, and west, with Obora Holedná, Soběšice, Kopeček Hill, Útěchov, and Býčí skála shaping the legs.

Season: Spring and autumn are the best months because the temperatures stay moderate and the training feels less forced. Summer gives warm to hot days, and days above 30°C are common, so locals move intervals early or late. Brno gets 1,771 sunshine hours a year, so evening rides and river runs still happen a lot. Winter changes the mood fast. Winter temps drop to around 5°C, and runners lean on Lužánky, Špilberk, and Brněnský běžecký pohár while cyclists keep Z2 flatter or go cyclocross-minded in the woods.
