Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso Zurich

The Valencia Marathon finishes next to the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe, within the City of Arts and Sciences, providing one of European road running's most recognizable finish areas. The Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso Zurich is an annual road marathon in Valencia, Spain, typically held in early December, with a 10K race included. It has been held since 1981, originally as the Marató Popular de València, and now holds World Athletics Platinum Label status. The course is largely a loop: runners begin at Pont de Montolivet and return toward the museum area for the finish. The race is organized by SD Correcaminos, the Valencian sports club also responsible for the Valencia Half Marathon. It attracts a large participant field, with numbers around 30,000, while still drawing elite runners capable of setting major records. Sisay Lemma’s 2:01:48 is the men’s course record, and a special elite-only pandemic edition saw four half marathoners finish faster than the previous world record and four marathoners break the old Valencia course record.

Carrera José Antonio Redolat

The Carrera José Antonio Redolat is a 5K road race in Valencia, run on asphalt around Avenida Pío Baroja and the Campanar area. It is part of the Circuit de Carreres Caixa Popular Ciutat de València, the city’s municipal race circuit, and starts on Avenida Maestro Rodrigo before finishing at the Estadi del Turia athletics track. The race is named for José Antonio Redolat, one of Valencia’s notable middle-distance runners. The format accommodates ordinary runners and fast club athletes alike: the main event is a short city 5K, with an “A tu Ritmo” option for those seeking a less competitive run. Children’s races follow on the track for participants under 14. The Municipal Sports Foundation organizes the event with Redolat Team, the running club founded by Redolat, who won major 1500 m titles and later coached in Valencia.

About cycling & running in Valencia

Valencia Training Notes

Running: Locals run the Turia Gardens when they want steady Z2 without fuss. Turia Gardens gives the city a 9 km green line, so intervals and base miles both fit. Jardín del Túria Park has 9 km of running path. The Paseo Marítimo Seafront Promenade has 4 km of running path. Valencia Runner Club meets twice a month on Saturdays at 10:00 AM for a social run. CA Cárnicas Serrano and Sociedad Deportiva Correcaminos sit close to the race scene. Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso Zurich and Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Half Marathon are the anchor events.

Cycling: Locals ride the flat city first, then go inland when they want work. The city is completely flat and has about 200 kilometres of cycle paths, plus over 160 km of bike lanes. Via Xurra starts at the Torre Miramar roundabout in Benimaclet and runs 15 kilometers through olive and orange groves. The route to El Saler and l'Albufera Nature Park makes a 48 kilometre round trip for steady base miles. The quiet roads through orange groves and along the Turia river give the legs a rest. Sierra Calderona brings the climbs and off-road trails near the city. Triatló València - Platja de Malva-rosa works as the anchor event.

Season: Spring owns Valencia when March to May keeps temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees. Autumn stays strong when September to October gives cooler days, golden light, and temperatures around 20-28°C. Summer brings 25°C to 35°C, so locals start early, keep beach rides easy, and save hard intervals for the smarter hours. Malvarrosa beach and Albufera feel right when long days carry the Z2 work. Winter changes less than you expect because Valencia sits in that mild 10-18°C range. Runners keep using Turia Gardens, and riders still roll the City of Arts and Sciences area or the coastline comfortably.
