About cycling & running in GloucesterGloucester Miles And Rides
Running: Gloucester runners keep things simple, with grass, flat laps, and club nights doing the job. Gloucester North parkrun sits at Oxstalls Sports Park and Plock Court, and the three-lap grass course has virtually no elevation change. Oxstalls gives you that local parkrun feel, with the far end of the park left to go wild. Plock Court makes road shoes fine otherwise, though the grass stops it feeling like a pure PB course. Hucclecote Harriers run Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with unofficial Sunday long runs. Angels meet Wednesday at Oxstalls tennis centre, 6pm for a 6.15 start. Some Girls Run, Kingsway Runners, Sellers Bridge Striders, Severn AC, and Gloucester AC fill the rest of the week. Wye Valley Tunnel Run and Chepstow Running Festival work as easy anchor races.
Cycling: Gloucester riders get a proper mix, from Z2 lanes to gravel days and club efforts. Gloucester City Cycling Club runs year-round Sunday social and sporting rides by ability group, midweek rides, race training, Spring and Summer Club TTs, three Open TTs, and two road races each year. PROPS Cycle Club brings the PROPS Cycle Club Charity Sportive 2026, with a 100-mile option for a gran fondo sort of day. Gloucester Gravel Adventure gives you 31 km with 63 m elevation. Gloucester Gravel Loop gives you 66 km with 901 m elevation. Churcham and Beyond Road Cycling Route gives you 61 km with 743 m elevation. Monks Hill, Shurdington Hill, and Dixton Hill are where the climbing starts to bite.
Season: Spring and Summer are the best months here, because the rides stack up and the running stays easy to plan. Gloucester City Cycling Club fills Spring and Summer with Club TTs, so intervals and race legs have a natural home. The TT course runs 9 km from Tewkesbury to Gloucester. Locals use summer for base miles, parkrun habits, and longer gravel loops. Winter changes the rhythm rather than stopping it. Gloucester City Cycling Club keeps Sunday rides and race training going year-round. Chepstow Running Festival January gives runners a clean winter target. Locals keep the Z2 steady and save the sharp stuff for better days.
