seuracup

Seuracup is a Helsinki youth athletics series organized by Helsingin Kisa-Veikot, with competition held at Eläintarhan kenttä. It includes sprints, middle-distance races, relays, jumps, and throws for club athletes from under-11 groups up to M17 and N17. The track events include 60m, 100m, 200m, 800m, 2000m, 4 x 50m, and 4 x 100m relays. Field events add long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, and javelin, functioning as a compact club athletics night rather than a single-distance race.

Jaama Run

Jaama Run is a trail running event in Kontiolahti, Finland, built around the fast Kontionpolut trail network. It runs on a June weekend and offers 5 km, 12 km, and 24 km races, plus a 1 km Mini-Jaama for children and guardians. The main distances are open to adults and young runners, and the shorter options are meant to be approachable for people trying a trail race for the first time. Most of the running routes use Kontionpolut, while Mini-Jaama stays by the stadium. The children’s start is free, every Mini-Jaama participant gets a small prize, and there are Mini-Jaama options both on foot and by bike. Cyclists also get a bigger weekend through the linked Tour de Karelianpolut event. Kontiolahti Urheilijat organizes the race.

Pärnävaaran polkujuoksu

Pärnävaaran polkujuoksu is a trail race on the Pärnävaara trails in Liperi, run on Ascension Day. The route uses hilly esker terrain, so runners get a varied mix of forest paths, dips, climbs, and elevation changes rather than a flat road-style effort. The event is new, with its first edition planned for Ascension Day, and registration stays open until race day, with cheaper entry for runners who sign up early. The main competitive focus is the 26 km race, which offers prize money to the fastest women and men: €2,500 for first, €1,000 for second, and €500 for third. The organizers also offer free entry to top runners because they want to raise the level and profile of Finnish trail running. The field is meant to include both Finland’s best trail runners and people who simply want a hard day out on Pärnävaara’s trails.

About cycling & running in Joensuu

Joensuu Training Notes

Running: Locals run from the city centre to Jaama Trail when they want soft trail miles without making a trip of it. Karjamaentie sits by the best trails in town, and that line makes sense after one easy Z2 loop. The first loop is 07 km with 0 m elevation gain for flat base miles. The second loop is 09 km with 0 m elevation gain when intervals need no drama. Weekend Runners of Joensuu meets at Tulliportinkatu 9, 80130 Joensuu. Jaama Run and Pärnävaaran polkujuoksu give the local calendar its anchor event feel.

Cycling: Locals ride because Joensuu has made the bike feel normal all year. Joensuun Pyöräilijät ry has been around since 1967, and JoensPy keeps it low threshold with group rides, gravel, road, MTB, and JoensPy-Cup. Jaama Trail, Kontionpolut, Lykynpolut, Harjupolut, and Kinttupolut give riders over 200 km across Joensuu, Kontiolahti, and Liperi. One MTB route covers 4 km of best-parts riding with 621 m of ascent and 639 m of descent. Kiihtelysvaara roads bring the hilly 140 km day. Liperi roads give the flat 65 km option.

Season: April and August bring the most riders out, and those months work well for runners too. Summer puts Lake Pyhäselkä, River Pielinen, and the city centre into the same easy rhythm, with temperatures often above 20°C and thunderstorms on 10–15 days per year. Locals keep the long stuff honest with Around Pyhäselkä lake at 125 km and the easy Kuurna channel ride at 40 km. Winter turns soft trails into much softer snow-covered forest, and snowcover averages 50–70 cm. JoensPy moves indoors at Joensuu Areena on Sunday mornings from October to April.
