Falling Leaves Lahti - UCI Qualifier Saturday

Falling Leaves Lahti’s Saturday race is a September gravel qualifier in Lahti, Finland, located in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Geopark region. The UCI qualifier features 175 km and 100 km routes, offering riders a long day on remote hardpack gravel, not a short festival spin. It connects to the broader Falling Leaves weekend, which includes Nordic Gravel Series racing, a gravel camp, and the traditional conclusion of the Finnish gravel season. The riding takes place on clean gravel roads through fields, lakes, and forests in Lakeland Finland. Riders can use the weekend as a championship qualifier for the UCI Gravel Worlds and the UEC European Gravel Championships, or consider it a final significant gravel trip before the season concludes. The race package is unusually comprehensive: Thursday and Friday shakeout coffee rides, a post-ride buffet, lake sauna and swim, and the Nordic Gravel Series closing party. Pajulahti sports center provides single and double rooms, and riders can reserve BMC gravel bikes equipped with electronic SRAM drivetrains and 40 mm Panaracer Gravelking tubeless tires.

Falling Leaves Lahti - Nordic Gravel Series Sunday

The Falling Leaves Lahti's Nordic Gravel Series on Sunday is the second race day of a gravel weekend in Lahti, Finland, set in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark region during autumn foliage. Participants can select 50, 80, or 145 km routes, with the Sunday event contributing to the Nordic Gravel Series season standings. It follows a Saturday UCI gravel qualifier, making the weekend suitable for those aiming for championship qualification and for participants seeking a shorter or more adaptable Nordic Gravel Series day. The routes traverse hardpack gravel roads in Lakeland Finland, with the scenery of fields, lakes, and forests around Lahti and Salpausselkä defining much of the course. This event also marks the customary conclusion of the Finnish gravel season. Participants can extend their stay with warm-up coffee rides, a supported Gravelking Falling Leaves Gravel Camp, a post-ride buffet, lake sauna and swim, and the NGS season closing party. Lodging is offered at Pajulahti sports center, and cyclists without a bicycle can rent BMC gravel bikes equipped with electronic SRAM drivetrains and 40 mm Panaracer Gravelking tubeless tires.

About cycling & running in Lahti

Lahti Base Miles

Running: Locals run the harbour area because it is the only flat area here. Lahden satama parkrun loops Pikku-Vesijärvi park and the lakeside boulevard, and the route runs half gravel path and half pavement. The 5km course follows Vesijärvi lakeside routes. The 10km course winds through Vesijärvi lakefront scenery and city streets. The Lahtijuoksu half marathon stays on mostly flat streets and paths around Vesijärvi and through stadium areas, and it still gains 650ft. Lahden Ahkera, LASY, KYMY, EKY, and Orimattilan Jymy keep the club scene serious. Tiirismaa Trail, Ultra X Finlande, and Lahtijuoksu are the anchor events.

Cycling: Locals ride from lake shore to ridge, so Z2 never feels dull for long. Around Lake Vesijärvi gives a proper 106 km base-miles loop. Salpausselkä Experience packs the local feel into a 30 km route. Lapakisto Experience stretches the gravel day to 55 km, and Hollola-Herrala gives 60 km of countryside views. LASY, KYMY, EKY, Lahden Ahkera, and Orimattilan Jymy are the names around the local scene. FNLD GRVL is the big anchor event, and Falling Leaves Lahti brings the UCI Qualifier feel. Salpausselkä ridge and Tiirismaa are where the climbs bite.

Season: July is the best month when you want warm legs and long steady days. Lahti summers usually run warm, and the average daily temperature in July exceeds 23°C. The city has also stacked many 25°C days in the last two decades, and the 2010 heatwave pushed Lahti to 35.0°C. Lahtijuoksu often feels like a summer effort because the race average sits at 69°F. Winter changes the rhythm for runners and cyclists because the season is cold and long. Winters are becoming more mild, but base miles, intervals, cyclocross, singletrack, and road work still follow the cold.
