Schneider Electric marathon de Paris

More than 50,000 runners line up for the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, a 42.195 km road marathon through the French capital every April. The modern race has run annually since 1976 and brings together amateurs, club runners, charity runners, corporate teams, and professionals on the same course. It is France’s biggest running event by finishers, and at its largest it ranks with New York as one of the world’s biggest marathons. It also carries World Athletics’ Elite label, the top label level for international road races. The course starts on the Champs-Elysees with an early downhill, then sends runners past Place de la Concorde, Opera Garnier, Bastille, and the Bois de Vincennes before returning toward central Paris along the Seine. Later sections pass Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower, Trocadero, and the Bois de Boulogne before the finish at Porte Dauphine. The route mixes wide boulevards, river roads, and wooded stretches, with pacemakers and aid stations every 5 km. Paris marathon history goes back to a small modern restart with only 126 runners, and the older 1896 race began at Porte Maillot with Len Hurst beating 190 competitors.

Holygames - Paris Églises Tour

The Holygames Paris Églises Tour is a 10 km road race through central Paris, with a free 5 km walk offered on the same program. It takes place in late May, starting at Sainte-Jeanne de Chantal in the 16th arrondissement and finishing at Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre. The race is for participants seeking a timed 10 km or a unique way to tour Paris. The course connects sport with Parisian church heritage, featuring activities at 10 churches along the route. Participants include experienced runners, beginners, dedicated amateurs, and joëlette teams. The prior edition had 2,489 participants. HOLY GAMES organizes the event, with timing by Oxybol. It includes a group warm-up, aid stations at 5 km and 10 km, a participant gift, and a medal.

La Course Solidaire Bleuet de France - 10 km

Every entry fee from La Course Solidaire Bleuet de France supports the Bleuet de France, with partner funding covering race organization. The event takes place in May, starting from Les Invalides in Paris. It features a 10 km road race, a 5 km race, a 1.5 km children's or parent-child race, and a 1.5 km public walk. The 10 km begins first in the morning, with a separate elite wave for runners who can prove a sub-36-minute time, followed by the main field shortly after. The course is laid out around Les Invalides, and bib pickup is at the Hôtel national des Invalides before race day; no same-day bib collection is available. The 10 km is open to runners aged 16 and up, while the 5 km starts at age 14. The children's race is for ages 9 to 15, and the walk is open to all. Finishers in the 10 km and 5 km receive a medal, and all race participants get a T-shirt. The walk includes a T-shirt but no bib or medal. The Military Governor of Paris organizes the event, and clubs and companies can register groups. The previous edition sold out.

About cycling & running in Paris

Paris Training Notes

Running: Locals run the Seine early, from Notre Dame through Ile de la Cite, past the Louvre and Jardin de Tuileries, out to Jardins du Trocadero, then back on the Left Bank. Bois de Boulogne gives you base miles, and its trails cover 56 km for running and bikes. Jardin des Tuileries gives you a tidy 2.6-kilometer loop between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde. Parc Monceau still feels like a local lap. AUP Running Club, Paname Run Club, Paris Running Club, and Mikkeller Running Club Paris keep the week moving. The 20 km de Paris and Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris are the big anchor events.

Cycling: Paris has improved immeasurably for cyclists, and the Seine riverfront now feels like the obvious Z2 line through town. The route is 6 km and gains 81 m. The climb to Montmartre is 4 km and climbs 303 m. Meudon Forest gives off-road tracks west of the centre. Paris Cycling Group runs 70 to 200 km road rides, and Le Peloton community keeps 40 to 100 km group rides social. Montmartre gives the city hill, while Chevreuse brings the real climbing.

Season: Spring and autumn are the best training blocks because the days stay mild and the nights stay cool. Summer gives long light and warm rides, with average highs around 19°C and about 8 hours of sunshine per day. Heatwave weeks can push sessions early, so locals move intervals to the morning and keep Z2 on the Seine or in Bois de Boulogne. Winter brings cool days, nights around 3°C, light frosts, and the occasional flurry, so runners keep park loops steady and cyclists lean on flatter lanes before bigger weekend rides.
