Haagse Beemden Loop

The Haagse Beemden Loop is an annual running event in Haagse Beemden, the large northwest residential district of Breda in North Brabant. The race is tied to a young part of the city: Haagse Beemden covers 16.76 square kilometres, holds more than 25,000 residents, and is split into nine neighbourhoods including Asterd, Heksenwiel, Kesteren, Gageldonk, Muizenberg, and Paradijs. It is a local neighbourhood race rather than a destination marathon, with the setting shaped by schools, shopping centres, community centres, football clubs, tennis clubs, and a sports hall. The route stays within Haagse Beemden, a district separated from central Breda by business parks but connected by bus lines to the centre and Breda station. The area grew from former wet grasslands north of Prinsenbeek, where peat was cut and hay was gathered before the war; the name still points back to those beemden. Runners pass through a planned residential landscape with older pieces left inside it, including Burgst estate, now a park, and preserved sites such as the Chapel of Gageldonk and the Kleine and Grote Hoeve. The local audience is easy to picture: families from the surrounding streets, school communities, club runners, and neighbours who follow district life through Haagse Beemden Nieuws.

Fit Forward Triatlon

Fit Forward Triatlon is a team quarter-distance triathlon in Prinsenbeek, a village in Brabant in the Netherlands, scheduled for late May. The only category is the 1/4 Team Triatlon, meaning the event focuses on teams completing the quarter-triathlon distance together, not a solo competition. The public listing omits swim, bike, and run routes, start times, and race rules. Entrants must consult the organizer's website for specific details. Registration and team changes are managed via an online form where required fields are marked with asterisks. Entry may close early if the participant limit is reached.

Triathlon Terheijden

Triathlon Terheijden is a Dutch triathlon held annually in the village of Terheijden, near Breda in North Brabant, on the second Sunday of June. Established in 1983, it is one of the oldest triathlons in the Netherlands. The event features eighth-distance and quarter-distance triathlons, with options for solo participants or duo/trio relay teams. The race layout is compact, with the swim, transition area, and finish line situated within approximately 500 meters. Competitors swim in the Mark river, near the Breda rowing club, and complete multiple 2.5 km laps for the run. The field comprises recreational athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and competitive racers, reflecting the character of Terheijden, a village of just over 6,000 people situated along a sand ridge beside the Mark, an area historically shaped by peat extraction, tides, dikes, and floods.

About cycling & running in Breda

Breda Base Miles

Running: Locals run Breda like a park-dominant training town, with easy Z2 from the city centre into Park Valkenberg and the Central Station on a 7 km loop. Runners of Breda keeps it social with monthly fun runs, sip & run, cake & run, and silent disco run nights. Parkrun meets every Saturday morning in the Waterakkers. Breda-Noord gives runners an 8 km escape through Wisselaar and the Strikberg meadows. Mastbos pulls longer runs south toward Galderse Meren. Singelloop Breda is the anchor event, and De Tien van 't Aogje and Haagse Beemden Loop keep the calendar local.

Cycling: Locals ride out of Breda for smooth asphalt, woods, and proper base miles without making a fuss about climbs. The Fietsallee links Breda and Alphen, with Slingerdreef and Huisdreef putting riders straight into that Brabant rhythm. The Bels Lijntje runs 37 km between Tilburg and Turnhout and takes you through the countryside in a clean line. Riders use Fransebaan in Alphen when they want fewer cars. Gravel riders dive off the smooth tarmac into woods, singletrack, gravel roads, and sandy paths. The five Breda gravel routes cover 427 km and gain 830 m. The climbs live in that accumulated gravel gain, not in mountains.

Season: October belongs to Singelloop Breda, so runners can build intervals, tempo, and Z2 around a clear anchor event. May brings the Fit Forward Triatlon and Haagse Beemden Loop. August brings Dorpsloop Teteringen. September brings De Tien van 't Aogje and De 5 van Bavel. Summer keeps both sports open and social, with rides past farm shops and along the Zuiderwaterlinie fitting neatly beside steady run blocks. Winter changes the surface more than the mood. The Santa-Run lands in December. The Snoeren Mastboscross lands in January, so runners get cyclocross energy underfoot while cyclists keep the woods in the rotation.
