About this race
Fatranský Vĺčko begins and ends at Ovčín Boulder and Bistro in Turčianske Jaseno, a village in Slovakia’s Žilina Region near Martin. It is a late-spring mountain event featuring dog trekking, trail running, short-course options, and kids’ categories. The main distance is 44 km with 2,400 m of climbing and a 10-hour limit, while the shorter 14 km course still climbs 500 m. Runners can enter with or without a dog, and the two 44 km categories each cap the field at 50 participants.
The long course proceeds from Ovčín toward Lysec, Malý Lysec, Jarabiná, and Kľak, utilizing meadows, old forest, and the ridge of Veľká Fatra rather than flat road miles. The 44 km dog trekking race includes two aid stations, but participants must still carry practical mountain gear: first aid, water and food for both human and dog, a charged phone, a headlamp, a cup, a dog bowl, and dog shoes. FATRACTIVE, o.z. organizes the race, with awards for the top three men and women in under-40 and over-40 categories.
