Course et marche octobre rose

The Course et marche Octobre rose in Nancy is a women-only 5 km road run and 5 km walk held in the city in early October. It is part of Octobre rose, the month-long breast cancer awareness campaign that runs each October, using the pink ribbon as its symbol. The Nancy event is a charity outing, with participants using the same distance to support breast cancer screening, research, and those affected by the disease. The route is an urban 5 km on Nancy's roads, with a walking option for those who do not wish to race. Similar Octobre rose runs and marches occur across France, including events in Bordeaux, Lille, and Strasbourg, often drawing participants from regular runners to first-time attendees. The campaign began in the United States and later came to France, focusing on early detection, regular medical follow-up, and fundraising for breast cancer research.

Ultra Trail Tour Nancy

Ultra Trail Tour Nancy is a trail-running weekend centered on Nancy in northeastern France, starting and finishing in Champigneulles. Its unique concept is an ultra-trail set within a city, but the routes focus on woods, paths, and natural terrain instead of urban streets. The event takes place in late May, offering distances from short discovery races to long ultras, including 9km Bergamote, 19km Macaron, 35km Mirabelle, 74km Chardon, and a 115km main race. It also features children's races, Nordic walking, relays, duo formats, and a night race. The local naming imbues the event with a distinct Nancy character: Macaron, Mirabelle, Bergamote, Chardon, and Roi Stan all reference regional foods, symbols, or history. The course crosses nearby woods and forests, the Plateau de Malzeville, and includes sufficient elevation gain to be challenging, despite not being a mountain area. The event is a UTMB Index race, attracting runners seeking recognized trail performance alongside locals, relay teams, walkers, juniors, and families. It also benefits Les P'tits Doudous and incorporates sustainable development practices.

Trail la Fumana

Trail la Fumana is a trail running event in Maxéville, near Nancy in France’s Grand Est region. The race offers runners a choice of short and middle-distance off-road routes: a 10 km trail, a 10 km night trail, and a longer course listed around half-marathon distance, either 21.1 km or 22 km depending on the source. The most distinctive option is the 10 km Nocturne, which sends runners into the forest after dark with headlamps. The longer route is described as demanding, while the event also includes children’s and junior races, so the field can range from first-time trail runners to more experienced runners looking for a tougher outing.

About cycling & running in Nancy

Nancy Training Notes

Running: Locals run Nancy like a tight city loop, not a postcard shuffle. The 5 km route makes an easy tour of the old town, the Oberlin and Saint-Sébastien districts, the banks of the Meurthe, Nancy Cathedral, Place Stanislas, Place Carrière, Place Carnot, and the Porte de la Craffe. Pépinière park works better for an easy walk than that loop. Runners use the Semi-Marathon de la Métropole du Grand Nancy as the anchor event, with the 10 Km de la Saint-Nicolas, Ultra Trail Tour Nancy, Trailwalker Oxfam forêts de Nancy, NANCY RIV ACTION, and Trail la Fumana filling the calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride from the city centre when they want base miles without drama. The Moselle Loop gives riders 85 km along the Moselle, with Nancy, Liverdun, Toul, and Neuves-Maisons as the main stages. The route mixes urban and rural landscapes and keeps the altitude change slight, so Z2 actually stays Z2. The Canal de la Marne au Rhin gives a bigger day out from Nancy to Strasbourg, with 147 km, 223 m of ascent, and 291 m of descent. The climbs sit south toward the Massif vosgien, while the east gives canal rhythm and long steady riding.

Season: October brings the Semi-Marathon de la Métropole du Grand Nancy, so runners sharpen intervals while cyclists still stack base miles on the Moselle Loop and canal routes. December brings the 10 Km de la Saint-Nicolas and Course de Saint-Nicolas - Nancy, so the city centre feels busy in a good race-week way. Summer keeps the Meurthe banks, Pépinière park, and canal paths useful for early starts and steady spins. Winter changes the feel more than the map, with the Fêtes de Saint Nicolas in early December drawing over 250,000 visitors for fireworks, parades, and a proper city-centre buzz.
